T. Clark Akers Joins Hall Capital Private Equity and Automotive Boards
Hall Capital Focuses on Nashville Growth, Draws on Experience and Perspectives of Community Leaders
February 17, 2016 – Nashville, Tenn. – Hall Capital, a family-owned private investment company based in Oklahoma City with a growing Middle Tennessee presence, announced the addition of Nashville’s T. Clark Akers as a member of the boards overseeing Hall Capital’s private equity and automotive ventures.
Akers will act as an advisor to Hall Capital Partners, the private equity affiliate of Hall Capital that has $250 million in capital under management. Akers will also join the oversight of Hall Capital’s automotive affiliate, The Fred Jones Companies, a pioneer in the automotive industry. Akers joins other notable Nashville figures in Hall Capital’s board structure, including real estate veteran Patrick Emery and healthcare entrepreneur William “Billy” Webb.
“We’re extremely pleased that Clark has agreed to join our team,” said Fred Hall, Chairman and CEO of Hall Capital. “Clark is a proven leader in private equity, and we welcome his insights and contributions. He is also respected throughout the Nashville community, a tremendous city that is an important part of Hall Capital’s growth trajectory. We are committed to helping Nashville grow in a positive manner, and part of this is incorporating esteemed members of the community, such as Clark, into our business leadership.”
Akers is a managing director in the SBIC Funds Placement Group at FBR & Co., which provides investment banking, merger and acquisition advisory, institutional brokerage and research services. Previously he worked in various capacities in the telecommunications sector, including serving as Senior Vice President of External Affairs for TeleCorp PCS, Inc., the ninth largest wireless phone company in the US before its acquisition by AT&T Wireless in 2002. Akers received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University in 1979.
“I am honored to be associated with the Hall family, their other board members and their portfolio companies, as well as old friends Billy Webb and Pat Emery,” said Akers. “As there is great momentum in Nashville and the Mid-South, I look forward to helping Hall Capital find good investment opportunities and meet experienced management teams here and in the wider region.”
Akers, Emery and Webb play key leadership roles for Hall Capital, which recently opened a Nashville office on Music Row. Company leaders have stated their commitment to strengthening their presence in Nashville. Other offices include Chicago, Dallas and its Oklahoma City home office.
The Hall family has deep ties to Nashville—brothers and senior executives Fred and Kirkland Hall are active Vanderbilt alumni—and has formed valuable relationships with influential area leadership and business people.
The company has expertise in the diverse spaces it practices: private equity, real estate, automotive and oil and gas.
Its private equity investments currently include more $250 million of committed capital, focused on the acquisition of growing and established mid-sized companies in diverse industries. Hall Capital also has a devoted affiliate focused on serving non-operating and royalty interests within the oil and gas industry. The company’s real estate work focuses on multi-tenant office and industrial buildings. Automotive is another key sector for Hall Capital, ideal for Tennessee’s growing auto industry. The company’s founder, Fred Jones, was an early icon in the automotive industry, acquiring his first Ford dealership in 1920 and later pioneering auto parts remanufacturing and distribution.
“Nashville is a city that is thriving today because of sound investments over the decades. This mirrors our company and the philosophy we apply with our partners,” said Hall. “We see our business and this region as an ideal fit and look forward to growing together.”
